Warhammer The Old World battle report: The Goblin Gambit

Fresh from getting their helmets dented on the Sands of Discord, my brave Bretonnian knights leapt back into action to fight a fancy tournament--only to be rudely interrupted by marauding Goblins and their larger (dumber) friends. What started out as the Grand Tournament of Parravon quickly turned into The Goblin Gambit.

Greenskins? On your tournament grounds? More likely than you think!

Is there such a thing as too many Greenskins?

I remember the old days. With Morrslieb ascendant, Goblin Green was the only green and raving lunatics slathered it onto bases with glee. Ol' Gorfang Rotguthe must've been at least thirty years old back thenpulled me aside and said: "If da ground ain't shakin’ when yer marchin’, you ain't bringin' enough boyz."

Come to think of it, this might've just been a fever dream (not even the maddest maniac applies Goblin Green to bases, after all*).

But the advice still holds, and even if it didn'tno one who values an un-butted head argues with Gorfang.

That's why I always keep extra Greenskins lurking around the paint station, waiting for a coat of paint. The jury's still out on whether I place them there, or if they appear out of thin air. Either way, here's the latest batch I painted.

* Warning: you need at least one Dwarf flame thrower (or flame cannon) to enter this entirely artificial flame war ;)

Just when you thought it was safe to head back out into the forest...

I added a 3D-printer to my hobby-arsenal

Right after posting Bolt Action Airborne Infantry on a very appropriate data, my blog went silent. Sorry about that. In all honesty work caught up with me and when you write for a living, writing for fun takes a back seat in busy periods. But the summer's picking up, marketeers are going on vacation and they tend to take their freelancer budgets with them. Good for me, it'll give me some time to paint and hobby. I've already gotten a bit of a head start by slapping paint on a model that rolled of my latest investment: a 3D-printer. What an adventure (cough, cough).

Three more Fellwater Troggoths join my Greenskins

Ever since painting the old metal River Trolls Fellwater Troggoths I've been meaning to paint some of the new plastic ones as well. I like the way GW has managed to keep the mix between comical and evil on the faces of the newer models. Besides, when you're on the battlefield, you can't go wrong with pot bellied monsters that puke all over the enemy. Last week I got my hands on three second hand Troggoths.

Warning, troubled stomachs ahead!

My Stone Trolls are ready to Trollololol away

I have decided to close my rather busy year (with the move still ahead at the start of the next one sssssh) with a few weeks vacation. Unfortunately my projects seem to expand with the amount of time I have planned to paint. I'll just soldier on. First on the list was finishing two of these three trolls.

You've got to love these classic Stone Troll sculpts.

A Troll Hag appears, nudity abounds!

I am making slow but sure progress on my Age of Sigmar terrain, but I am getting delayed by my rediscovery of the Orcs&Goblins (Orruks&Grots) project box. This week I took out my Troll Hag and finally gave her a paint job.

This model is huge, filled with character and utterly disgusting.

Orcs, orcs, orcs, orcs, orcs

I started the year (and ended last year) painting a lot of orcs, goblins, trolls and other models. I got all of these second hand or from a very old box out of storage. I should expand this army, and not everything I have is painted, but I got a bit tired of painting green, so maybe at a later point in time.
