So there I was, happily working on my Wood Elf army project, when a bunch of rather rowdy Dwarves popped up on the paint station. Obviously, I could've told them to wait but they had free beer with them...well I hope it was free, I don't want to see the bill otherwise. I guess I'll find out when they're back from defending their brewery from a Goblin invasion...

Our little gaming group recently decided to give Warhammer 40K 10th edition another go. As most of us hadn't touched our 40K miniatures in the past year(s) it took a bit of speed reading to take in the rules again. We also decided to play with the Crusade rules from our almost mint (and by now out of print) Tyrannic War source books. This is a battle report of Operation Iron Siren, the first engagement in the Vox Arx Crusade.

The Green Tide keeps flooding in, so to speak. After the previous waves of Goblin Banner Bearers, Wolf Riders, Orcs and assorted Night Goblins and Orcs I have one more wave of Goblins to share. Let's call them 'Da Rest of Da 'Orde' and be done with it. (Until I finish painting more Greenskins, or decide to rebase the last holdouts on rounds after all).

As I mentioned quite some time ago, I like big banners (and I cannot lie). One of my biggest pet peeves with Age of Sigmar (and by extension modern GW fantasy miniatures) is the absence of banners in the units. With my recent Goblin projects I had a chance to rebase one of my older, more ostentatious banners and to try a by now ancient technique on another banner. Here's the result.

As I typed that headline, I heard a million SEO-consultants cry out in terror, suddenly silenced. Smart move on the consultants' side, as I've added even more Greenskins to my square-based horde, making them utterly unstoppable*. Some of these have been rebased, but I've also added a nice unit of Middlehammer Wolf Riders, some 3D-printed Wolf Riders and another Wolf Chariot to the mix horde.
* Until the first bravery test, that is.

I am slightly oversaturating my blog with game reports, but I have an excuse. Backlog! Well backlog and laziness, so I have two excuses! Backlog, laziness and it's fun to write game reports. I have three excuses! You know what, let's assume we all know where this bit is heading and move on to the gist of it. Here are two quick and dirty skirmish reports from recent Stargrave Dead or Alive games I played with the kids. Dadhammer at its finest :).

On a cursed desert plateau, known as the Red Mirage, ancient Elven ruins rest in the shifting sands. Time warps between weather-worn obelisks and the winds howl with forgotten voices. In the shadows of a particularly high dune, storms uncover a forgotten barrow. Its looming gate creaks open, revealing Azhag the Slaughter, or rather Azhag the Time Traveler. Guided by prophetic visions (or possibly a concussed brain squig), he has led a rampaging horde through a time portal into the desert. He's searching for a mythical artifact known as the Sandglass of Ghur. According to the whispers in his skull, this relic allows the wielder to change the flow of time itself. Will anything stop the time-warped warlord from getting his green mitts on this great prize?

This weekend I decided to go crazy and rebase my old Orcs on new-fangled big 30x30 squares. To be quite honest, I promised myself I would only rebase Ruglud's Ladz, knowing full well I would get carried away doing that. Besides, I figured, rebasing a bunch of Orcs should only take a Saturday morning's worth of time (for me, starting any task requires a complete miscalculation of the time required to actually do it). So a full weekend and a few mid-week evenings later, here's a bunch of rebased Greenskins, ready to take on The Old World in style.

Fresh from getting their helmets dented on the Sands of Discord, my brave Bretonnian knights leapt back into action to fight a fancy tournament--only to be rudely interrupted by marauding Goblins and their larger (dumber) friends. What started out as the Grand Tournament of Parravon quickly turned into The Goblin Gambit.

As promised, I'm going to write a few more battle reports for Warhammer The Old World. Luckily I have a bit of material to work with from the first half of 2025. The downside is that all photos were taken during the game, so the quality is not exceptional. With that said, here's my report of the Battle in the Sandy Ruins where Bretonnian fought Bretonnian over the right to reclaim a mysterious relic.

I remember the old days. With Morrslieb ascendant, Goblin Green was the only green and raving lunatics slathered it onto bases with glee. Ol' Gorfang Rotgut—he must've been at least thirty years old back then—pulled me aside and said: "If da ground ain't shakin’ when yer marchin’, you ain't bringin' enough boyz."
Come to think of it, this might've just been a fever dream (not even the maddest maniac applies Goblin Green to bases, after all*).
But the advice still holds, and even if it didn't—no one who values an un-butted head argues with Gorfang.
That's why I always keep extra Greenskins lurking around the paint station, waiting for a coat of paint. The jury's still out on whether I place them there, or if they appear out of thin air. Either way, here's the latest batch I painted.
* Warning: you need at least one Dwarf flame thrower (or flame cannon) to enter this entirely artificial flame war ;)

After reappearing with a shameless plug for my first book, it's about time I got back to writing about slapping paint on unsuspecting miniatures. Writing, to be sure! I have not been sitting on my hands for the past months—quite the opposite: I have a finished projects backlog to write about. This is a marked contrast with my usual the pile of shame too unfinished to write about. Anyway, on to a lot of painted miniatures (not all at once). Here's my completely finished (cough—not quite—cough) Bretonnian muster.

You'd almost think 'Another Wargaming Blog' should be rebranded as 'Another Wait-for-a Blog', luckily this time I have a better excuse than 'I didn't find the time to blog'. You see...I...ehm,,,I didn't find the time to blog :) To be fair, I was rather busy writing (and finishing) my first novel: Quantum Betrayal. I recently self-published it on Kindle and Kobo.

Over the past few months I've been painting models for my Bretonnian army. I never got around to posting finished models due to a lack of tufts and the ambition to make a flock box (it failed). Today I decided to just grab ready made tufts and finish and photograph a whole bunch of models at once. Here's (most of) the planned core of my army, consisting of ten Mounted Knights of the Realm, a Paladin bearing the Battle Standard of Mousillon, Duke Maldred of Mousillon on his Royal Pegasus and his illegitimate daughter Malory leading the first cavalry wedge with her duelists' blades drawn and her visor open.

These last few weeks I've been having a glorious time picking up random projects taking up space around my paint station. This rather horrifying Sump Spider, a model by Print Minis, is one of those projects. It also marks the first model of a giant spider I did not paint pink. That's a bit of a change for me; I would also say it's nightmare fuel compared to the bubblegum pink Gobbo Spiders in the display case.

Most of the fantasy themed battles I fought over the past few years used my Townscape buildings and the two version of woodland terrain in my collection. That's all nice and well, but I've always wanted to expand into different styles of 'table dressing'. Recently I decided to turn to 3D-printing once more to turn that dream into reality. Starting out with a very pretty set of Dwarf themed terrain by Cast n Play Miniatures.

Warhammer The Old World has been released just shy of AoS' tenth birthday (it was released in 2015). That means that, as an early adopter of that system, I haven't played a variant of the old 'square based' original rules for at least nine years. In practice it is a lot longer, my last long string of games was with the (then new) 3rd and 4th editions of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. I tried getting back into fantasy during 8th, but it was a bad experience. Having said that: I'm stoked to get playing with squares again . Not in the least because armies take less space to store on squares. By now I've had the chance to get two games in. Here's a dual battle report (sort of), with running commentary about the differences between Warhammer AoS and TOW a lazy, rule-ignoring greybeard like me experiences. Let's start of with a semi-spectacular snap first.

My Dwarven army is finished and ready to stomp through The Old World again. To be fully honest I took them out for a spin already (most of them bare-based and some unpainted (heresy, I know)). But having them all lined up and fully painted is just a wonderful sight I wanted to share (and brag about, I'll be honest here ;). Without further ado, here's the lot:
